Knitstanbul "Tank Tops Not Tanks" Tank Top
Five Boys is delighted to be collaborating with Knitstanbul with the launch of their “Tank Tops Not Tanks” campaign – a collection of beautifully knitted tank tops. Our boys love a tank top – over pyjamas on a lazy morning or a crisp white shirt for special occasions, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to be doing a little to support this goodwill organisation and helping to spread the word of Malika and the work of the Syrian ladies in Istanbul.
The brainchild of Malika McCosh - who found to her delight that her neighbours in Damascus were brilliant knitters when she had a baby there in 2008 - Knitstanbul is a women’s cooperative in which Syrian refugees knit beautiful traditional pieces for the UK and European market.
Malika recognised that in the aftermath of the devastation in Syria the ladies were able to put their skill, time and energy to therapeutic use, and produce beautiful pieces of clothing from baby bonnets and blankets to rompers and cardigans. Now based in London, Malika has handed over the day-to-day operations in Istanbul to one of her former knitters. It is Souhair who now manages the project, sourcing yarn, organising the knitters, carrying out quality control and shipping pieces back to London.
Knitted with love. Last few reduced. Full donation still goes to Knitstanbul.
